Gary W. Alderson


Gary W. Alderson is a Director whose areas of practice include professional liability defense, personal injury, premise liability, motor vehicle accidents, construction law, contract disputes, elder law, adult guardianships, and general civil litigation.

Gary graduated from Wesley College in Dover, Delaware with an Associate’s Degree in Nursing in 1982. Gary actively practiced nursing from 1982 through 2012 in various settings including emergency, critical care, home care, and as a State long-term care compliance and adult protection investigatory consultant. Gary maintains current Delaware licensure as a Registered Nurse, is a member of the Delaware Nurses’ Association, a member of the American Nurses’ Association, and a member of the Rules & Regulations Committee of the Delaware Board of Nursing.

Gary graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor’s of Science degree from Wilmington University, and graduated with honors with a Juris Doctorate degree from Widener University School of Law in 1999.

Gary was admitted to the Delaware bar in February of 2000. Gary was the Deputy Public Guardian (1996-99), a Deputy Attorney General (1999-2001), and a Worker’s Compensation Hearing Officer (2001-02). Gary joined this Firm in 2008. Gary has litigated cases in every Delaware court, including the United States District Court and the United States Third Circuit Court.

Gary has been a credentialed Delaware Court of Chancery Guardianship Mediator since 2001, a credentialed Delaware Superior Court Arbitrator since 2005, and a Delaware Insurance Department Arbitrator since 2005.

Gary is a member of the Delaware State Bar Association, and was the Secretary (2005-2007), Chair (2007-2008), and Vice Chair (2008-09) of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Section of that Association.

Gary is a former adjunct professor with Wilmington University, and has been an adjunct professor at the Widener University School of Law’s Legal Education Institute since 2012.

Professional Activities

Gary is an active volunteer fire fighter and has been since 1974. He was inducted into the Delaware Fire Fighter’s Hall of Fame in 1989. Gary is an Instructor at the Delaware State Fire School and a former Instructor for the American Heart Association.

Gary has served for over twenty years on various volunteer boards including those of his fire company, his family’s swim club, and his synagogue. Gary currently serves on the board of a local long term care and assisted living facility.

Publications & Lectures

Gary wrote the published Attorney General’s Opinion, Treatment of Involuntarily Committed Patients Prior to Judicial Review ( in 2001.

Gary’s notable cases include Kardos v. Harrison, 980 A.2d 1014 (Del. 2009), and Dambro v. Meyer, 974 A.2d 121 (Del. 2009).
