Gary W. Alderson


Gary W. Alderson, RN is a Director whose areas of practice include professional liability defense, personal injury, premise liability, motor vehicle accidents, construction law, contract disputes, elder law, adult guardianships, and general civil litigation.

Registered Nurse

Gary is a native Delawarean who graduated from Wesley College in Dover, Delaware with an Associate’s Degree in Nursing. He actively practiced nursing for nearly twenty years in various clinical settings including emergency, critical care, and home care. Gary was also a State long-term care compliance and adult protection nurse consultant and was the Deputy to the Delaware Public Guardian.

Gary maintains current Delaware licensure as a Registered Nurse and begins a two-year term as President of the Delaware Nurses’ Association in December of 2018. He is also a member of the American Nurses’ Association and is a former member of the Rules & Regulations Committee of the Delaware Board of Nursing. In 2017, Gary was nominated as a Top Nurse by Delaware Today magazine.


Gary graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor’s of Science degree from Wilmington University and with honors with a Juris Doctorate degree from the Delaware Law School of Widener University in 1999. He was admitted to the Delaware bar in February of 2000.

Before joining this firm, Gary was a Deputy Attorney General and a Worker’s Compensation Hearing Officer. He also worked for a plaintiff’s firm and defense firms. Gary has litigated cases in every Delaware court, including the United States District Court and the United States Third Circuit Court. He also frequently represents clients before administrative tribunals such as the Board of Nursing and represents several non-profit organizations and businesses including a regional convenience store chain.

Gary is credentialed as a guardianship mediator by the Delaware Court of Chancery and as an arbitrator by both the Delaware Superior Court and the Delaware Insurance Department. He is a member of the Delaware State Bar Association and was the Secretary, Vice Chair and Chair of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Section of that Association. Gary is also a former adjunct professor at Wilmington University and the Legal Education Institute at Widener University’s Delaware Law School.

Gary wrote the published Attorney General’s Opinion, Treatment of Involuntarily Committed Patients Prior to Judicial Review ( His notable cases include Kardos v. Harrison, 980 A.2d 1014 (Del. 2009) and Dambro v. Meyer, 974 A.2d 121 (Del. 2009). Gary has also given several continuing education lectures to both attorneys and nurses.

 Community & Family

Gary is a member of several Delaware fire companies and an active volunteer firefighter and EMT for over 45 years. He was named a Delaware Firefighter of the Year for heroism and was inducted into the Delaware Fire Fighter’s Hall of Fame. Gary is an Instructor with the Delaware State Fire School and the American Heart Association. In 2017, he was recognized by the Governor and the New Castle County government for his participation in a live-saving CPR at the Wilmington courthouse. Gary served for over twenty years on various volunteer boards including those of his fire companies, his swim club, his synagogue, and a local long-term care and assisted living facility.
